Techno - Paranoia
3RD YEAR DISSERTATION
SUPERVISOR: MARK GARCIA
In recent years, smart homes and corresponding technologies have become increasingly popular. Yet through mainstream media, films and TV, they are not portrayed as a positive part of architecture and the future.
The dissertation explores which kinds of smart home devices are already present in the home, evaluates these against the situations shown in post-humanist media and looks at real projects from the past and present in order to come up with a clearer idea of how technology has affected domestic architecture.
Ongoing projects and exhibitions are also evaluated, comparing the visions of the past to the reality of the future whilst maintaining a critical viewpoint regarding security and privacy of personal data. It looks at the Internet of Things and delves into Posthuman theories that reiterate the types of outcomes the future many have if technology takes over architecture.
